Refunds & cancellations
When things don't go ahead.
Sometimes plans change before the parcel even leaves the atelier. Sometimes a piece arrives and the moment is gone. Here's how we handle each case — and your rights under South African law.
1 · Cancelling before we ship
You can cancel a paid order any time before the parcel is collected by the courier — usually within 24 hours of placing it while your order is still being prepared. Cancellation is full and immediate, with a refund to your original payment method.
To cancel, email support@blingkatrien.com with your order number. We move quickly during pack-out, so please write rather than wait — once the parcel is in courier hands, cancellation becomes a return (see Returns policy).
2 · Cooling-off period
Under the South African Consumer Protection Act (section 44), any order placed through this website can be cancelled within 5 business days of delivery without giving a reason. We'll refund the price of the pieces in full. You pay the cost of returning the parcel to us.
To exercise your cooling-off right, follow the same steps as starting a return — see the Returns policy. The piece needs to come back in the condition we sent it (unworn outdoors, tags attached, no damage to the embellishments).
3 · Failed payment
If your payment doesn't go through, no money is taken and no refund is needed. Your order will appear briefly in your account as "pending" and is automatically cancelled after 4 hours if the payment never confirms — so a stuck attempt doesn't tie up the piece for other customers.
4 · What's refundable
- Pre-ship cancellations — full refund, including original shipping
- Cooling-off returns (within 5 business days of delivery) — full refund of the piece price; the original R 80 shipping fee is not refunded; you pay return shipping
- Defective pieces or wrong item sent — full refund including all shipping fees; we cover return shipping
- Sizing exchange that turns into a refund because your size is sold out — full refund of the piece price (see Returns policy for shipping treatment)
5 · What's not refundable
- Pieces marked "Final Sale" at checkout
- Pierced jewellery and earrings (health regulations)
- Custom-altered or made-to-measure pieces sized specifically for you
- Pieces returned outside the 14-day return window, except where they're defective (in which case the 6-month CPA section 56 right still applies)
- Pieces returned damaged or visibly worn outdoors may receive a reduced refund or store credit at our discretion — we'll always discuss before deciding
6 · How the refund reaches you
Refunds always go back to your original payment method — the card or EFT account you used at checkout. We can't send refunds to a different card, a bank transfer if you paid by card, or vice versa. This is a fraud-prevention rule the payment processors enforce, not a Bling Katrien choice.
If your card has expired or been replaced since you paid, your bank will route the refund to the new card automatically — but let your bank know to expect it.
7 · How long it takes
Once a refund is approved on our side, it takes 5 to 10 business days to land in your account. Card refunds tend to be quicker (often within a week); EFT refunds via Ozow are usually faster still. The exact line item on your statement depends on your bank.
If 10 business days have passed and you don't see it, drop us a note at support@blingkatrien.com with the order number and we'll trace it through the payment processor for you.
8 · Store credit option
Where a refund is offered, you can choose store credit instead — we add a 10% bonus on top of the refund value as a thank-you for keeping things inside the atelier. Credit doesn't expire and stacks with any active discount codes on your next order.
9 · Discount codes & refunds
If you paid with a discount code applied, your refund is the amount you actually paid — not the pre-discount price. The code's usage count is unaffected; you can use it again on a fresh order (subject to its expiry and usage limit).
10 · Affiliate commission & refunds
If an order with affiliate attribution is refunded or cancelled, the commission is reversed automatically. This is standard practice and is laid out in our Affiliate terms.
11 · Disputed transactions
If you don't recognise a charge from Bling Katrien on your statement, please contact us before raising a chargeback with your bank. Most cases turn out to be the payment-processor's name showing on the statement (PayFast, Paystack, Ozow) rather than ours — easy to resolve once we look it up.
12 · Questions
